The Royal Mint commemorates the ten heraldic beasts that line the moat bridge of Hampton Court Palace with the coin series "Royal Tudor Beasts." These creatures were commissioned by Henry VIII and symbolized the legitimacy of the king's rule by representing his royal lineage. The initial coins in the ten-part collection featured the Seymour Panther and the Lion of England. Now, the series continues with The Yale of Beaufort. The white-gold spotted Yale of Beaufort is considered an extremely mystical creature, sharing characteristics with a goat or antelope. This peculiar beast has also been closely associated with the powerful Beaufort family.
The obverse of the coin features the Yale of Beaufort with its antelope-like body, lion's tail, and tusks reminiscent of a boar. The Yale of Beaufort is presented with the coat of arms of Jane Seymour, enhancing her authority and influence as the new wife of the king. The design is framed by the inscription "YALE OF BEAUFORT," the year "2023," and the fine weight and fineness "1oz FINE GOLD 999.9."
On the reverse side of the coin is the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Surrounding the portrait is the inscription "D G REG F D," which stands for Dei Gratia Regina, Fidei Defensor (By the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith).
