The British gold coin Britannia is issued by The Royal Mint of the United Kingdom since 1987. It was the first European bullion coin.
The obverse of the Britannia coin shows a symbol of a nation created by Philip Nathan standing next to a shield bearing the Union Flag, or the flag of the United Kingdom. An olive branch is also depicted representing peace. This side of the coin is also the side where the security features have been added.
The reverse of the coin features a beautiful effigy of King Charles III, designed by Martin Jennings. The monarch's name KING CHARLES III and the face value of 100 POUNDS can also be found on this side of the coin. The initials of the designer has been added at the bottom right of the effigy.
This coin has remarkable features and is considered as the “most secure coin in the world”. The 2023 release continues with the innovative and popular security elements, designed to defeat counterfeiting professionals. These include:
- A surface animation which creates movement in the background of waves
